Custom Women’s Skirt Styles

We manufacture different skirt silhouettes for seasonal collections and coordinated apparel programs, including:

  • Pencil skirts
  • A-line skirts
  • Straight skirts
  • Pleated skirts
  • Wrap skirts
  • Tiered skirts
  • Mini, midi and maxi skirts
  • Buyer-defined silhouettes

Construction varies according to how the skirt should sit at the waist, follow the hips and move during wear.

Skirt Specifications to Confirm

Clear specifications establish the basis for pattern development, material selection and sampling.

Specification Details to Confirm
Silhouette Pencil, A-line, straight, pleated, wrap, tiered, mini, midi, maxi or custom
Fabric Cotton, denim, linen blends, suiting, viscose, polyester, knit or buyer-selected fabric
Waist Fixed waistband, faced waist, elastic, drawcord, paper-bag or contoured construction
Closure Concealed or visible zipper, buttons, hooks, ties or pull-on
Lining & Opacity Full or partial lining, slip layer, pocketing and opacity requirements
Details Pleats, vents, slits, pockets, panels, topstitching, wash or decoration
Size & Length Buyer size chart, grading rules, waist/hip ease and finished length tolerance

These specifications are confirmed before sampling so that the finished skirt matches the intended fit, appearance and construction.

For the wider category, see our women’s dresses & skirts collection.

Skirt Development for Shape and Movement

A fitted pencil skirt requires controlled waist and hip measurements, while a pleated or fluid maxi skirt depends more heavily on drape, pleat retention and hem behavior.

During sample development, we check:

  • Waistband fit and waist-to-hip balance
  • Closure position and operation
  • Pocket placement and behavior
  • Lining movement
  • Vent or slit opening during wear
  • Pleat formation and consistency
  • Skirt volume and proportion
  • Finished hem level
  • Fabric shrinkage and dimensional stability

For pleated, washed or structured styles, the fabric and finishing process are evaluated before grading and bulk production.

Fabric & Skirt Construction

Fabric selection directly affects the shape, movement and finishing of a skirt. We work with approved materials according to the required silhouette and construction.

Common material directions include:

  • Cotton and cotton blends
  • Denim
  • Linen and linen blends
  • Suiting fabrics
  • Viscose and cellulosic fabrics
  • Polyester and synthetic blends
  • Knit fabrics
  • Buyer-selected materials

Construction can incorporate waistbands, facings, pockets, pleats, vents, slits, panels, lining and decorative stitching according to the approved design.

For brands developing lower-impact collections, material options can also be aligned with our sustainable women’s apparel direction.

Quality Control for Skirts

Skirt QC focuses on fit, symmetry, construction and finished appearance.

Key inspection points include:

  • Waistband and closure alignment
  • Waist and hip measurements
  • Pleat or panel consistency
  • Pocket symmetry and placement
  • Seam and topstitch quality
  • Lining balance
  • Fabric shade and wash tolerance
  • Hem level and shape
  • Finished measurements
  • Pressing and overall appearance

For denim and washed skirts, shade, hand feel, shrinkage and abrasion tolerance are checked against the approved standard.
